Venting at work?

Having not given up my day job, I'm pondering ventriloquism more than getting down to practicing.
Maybe at this point I'm really only evaluating the "usefulness" of ventriloquism as a skill. Is it just a stage performance skill or can I use it in different places.
For instance, in my job in Human Resources (yea, I'm one of those), could I, say, interview applicants? And if they don't notice, then don't hire them?
I can hear it now:
"Whoa man, it was like a panel interview. The bigger guy with the glasses was nice, but the little dude was really rude."
